White Hat Software
It is kind of you to stop by.
White Hat is a little Sole Proprietorship, the name I
use when cashing checks for writing software, and this site is a place where I
post tidbits of a rather colorful journey. Every few years, the site langours while
I go through some kind of chrysalis and refactor my outward appearance, of which this
site is one portion. Sometimes it changes names. It's been White Hat since 2003.
The name White Hat usually refers to a network security expert who battles the
black hats. I am no such expert. I use the term to refer to the fact that I work
only within the law insofar as my software is concerned. It started with a
simple resolve to be more honest and stop using pirated software as my way of
advocating the value of open source,
and has grown to become a position on Ethics in
Computing which is more rare than it ought to be.
In the end of the story, this site will be a cogent resource on the subject, but
for now it is minimal and somewhat peripatetic, and who
knows what you'll find here from day to day. Stop by from time to time and
you'll see an interesting story unfold.
